Rehabilitation of the Regional Road Stenje – Konjsko

With the aim of developing tourism and improving infrastructure in the rural areas of the Prespa region, the Public Enterprise for State Roads, under its 2025 Programme, allocated 30 million denars for rehabilitation of the regional road R1307, section from the village of Stenje to the village of Konjsko.
To inspect what has been implemented so far from the planned rehabilitation, an on-site visit was carried out by the Director of the Public Enterprise for State Roads, Koce Trajanovski, together with the Mayor of the Municipality of Resen, Jovan Tozievski, Members of Parliament Gjorgija Sajkoski and Kire Bozhinovski, the Deputy Director of the Public Enterprise for Maintenance and Protection of Main and Regional Roads, Aleksandar Shukovski, and their professional teams.

The works on the Stenje–Konjsko regional road to date have included rehabilitation of the roadbed over a length of 3,800 metres, including levelling and the installation of 1,300 m³ of sub-base material with a width of 4.5–5 metres. In addition, 3,800 metres have been asphalted, with a total of 1,980 tonnes of asphalt laid, with an average width of 3.6 metres, while the roadbed in the curves has been widened to 4.5 metres.

This rehabilitation is being carried out under the 2025 Programme for Maintenance and Protection of State Roads, implemented by the Public Enterprise for Maintenance and Protection of Main and Regional Roads (PE “Makedonijapat”).
This picturesque area, largely untouched by human activity and where nature looks almost unreal, is ideal for rest and relaxation of all the senses, which is why the Public Enterprise for State Roads is dedicating special attention to improving road infrastructure.
The investment will significantly improve access to the Prespa region, stimulate tourism development, and contribute to the economic growth of local communities.

Creating Conditions for Smooth Traffic Flow near the Bigorski Monastery

The Public Enterprise for State Roads has successfully implemented a project for the rehabilitation of the retaining wall and protection of the regional road R1202 near the Bigorski Monastery, which significantly improved the safety and comfort of all traffic participants. The goal of this project is to ensure the stability of the road infrastructure and to enable an uninterrupted flow of vehicles at one of the most frequently visited tourist locations in the region.

In addition to repairing the retaining wall, a new parking area has been built for travelers and tourists visiting this important Macedonian holy place. As a result, the long-standing parking problem has been resolved and visitor access to the monastery has been improved.

Construction activities began last year and included a series of complex operations:

• Clearing the road alignment of bushes and trees,
• Mechanical excavation and embankment construction,
• Laying a base layer of crushed stone,
• Installing new curbs and a metal pedestrian bridge railing,
• Asphalting of the roadway surface,
• Road marking with reflective paint for increased visibility and safety.

The total value of the project amounts to 569,591 euros, representing a significant investment in improving the road infrastructure and the region’s tourism offering. The contractor was ESKAVATORI-MK DOOEL Import-Export, Skopje, and supervision was carried out by GEING DOO Skopje.

With the completion of this project, conditions are created for safe and smooth traffic flow, while simultaneously promoting tourism development and the preservation of Macedonia’s cultural heritage.

Trajanovski: “We are building better roads for a safer future!”

Roads are not just lines on a map – they are connections that bring development, trade, and safety. At the Congress organized by the Macedonian Association of Road Engineers and dedicated to road infrastructure, where discussions focused on the future, modern planning, new technologies, artificial intelligence, and sustainable management, the Director of the Public Enterprise for State Roads, Koce Trajanovski, participated as a speaker.

He emphasized that this year, with investments exceeding 500 million euros, the Public Enterprise for State Roads has implemented significant projects and put into operation the express roads Kriva Palanka–Stracin, Gradsko–Drenovo, and 37 km of the Kichevo–Ohrid motorway. Trajanovski also spoke about new projects, stating that the PESR is working on new road sections, reconstructions, as well as technical solutions for the second phase of the Skopje–Blace motorway, on new motorways that are part of Corridor 8 being constructed by Bechtel and Enka, as well as other regional connections.

He pointed out that the focus is not only on constructing new roads, but also on investing in regular and preventive road maintenance through the Road Asset Management System (RAMS), which enables smart planning and monitoring of the road network’s condition. Preventive maintenance means safer roads and lower costs – up to 50% savings.

“Our goal is clear: a modern, functional, and safe road network that connects people and creates opportunities.”
