PROGRESS MONITORING: Rehabilitation of bridge over the Vardar River (near v.Zdunje)

The Public Enterprise for State Roads is having the bridge over the Vardar River (near the village of Zdunje) on State Road A2, section Gostivar – Straza rehabilitated.

Namely, the condition of this 50-meter bridge has long been such that it required a rehabilitation in order to reinforce it and thereby increase its safety, as well as the safety of all traffic participants using this road section.

The bridge has an 8-meter-wide carriageway and 1.20 meters wide sidewalks, all of which are planned to be completely rehabilitated under the project. The Contractor PELAGONIJA AD Gostivar and the Supervising Engineer GEING DOO Skopje have already completed about 50% of the construction activities. Currently, works are being executed on the left side of the bridge in the direction from Gostivar toward Straza, including:

  • works on the bridge substructure;
  • rehabilitation of the left main girder;
  • concreting part of the secondary beams;
  • rehabilitation of the upper concrete deck of the bridge, after which a new asphalt layer will be applied, etc.

Once works on the left side are completed, activities will continue on the right side.

Due to the ongoing construction works, there is a temporary traffic regime in place. Considering the high traffic volume on this road section, the Public Enterprise for State Roads appeals to drivers to carefully follow traffic signs and exercise patience.

The total value of the project for the rehabilitation of the bridge over the Vardar River (near the village of Zdunje) on State Road A2, section Gostivar – Straza, amounts to 41,149,154.50 denars.
