“The constant talk about the importance of Corridor 8 and the connection of the country with the region is not sufficient — words need to be turned into action. Therefore today, actions are speaking louder than words. In addition to the current construction activities on the Gostivar–Bukojčani and Prilep–Bitola sections, which are progressing, we are now starting construction activities on the Tetovo–Gostivar section as well,” said Koce Trajanovski, Director of the Public Enterprise for State Roads, at the marking of the start of construction works by the Bechtel & Enka consortium on the Tetovo–Gostivar section.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Deputy Prime Ministers Nikoloski, Mexhiti, and Dimovski, along with U.S. Ambassador Angela Aggeler, members of parliament, mayors, and representatives of Bechtel & Enka, attended the ceremony marking the start of construction on the Tetovo–Gostivar highway section, which is 17.5 km long.
This section is part of the broader project for the construction of Corridors 8 and 10d, being built by the Bechtel & Enka consortium.
The economic benefits of the consortium’s construction activities are already being felt, as the construction of the 110 kilometers of highways has enabled greater involvement of domestic construction companies in the implementation of Corridors 8 and 10d. Around 60% of the project’s contractors are local companies, along with more than 90% of the subcontractors. This means a boost to the economy and an improvement in investments.
To date, a total of 2,497 land parcels have been expropriated across the three sections, and construction activities on the Gostivar–Bukojčani and Prilep–Bitola sections are progressing.
The Public Enterprise for State Roads has, in its 2025 Annual Program, allocated a total of 150 million euros for the Bechtel & Enka consortium. Of this amount, 130 million euros have already been included in this year’s state budget for the American-Turkish operator, with an additional amount of approximately 20 million euros remaining unspent from previous years.
